The unique architectural monument was built on the place where the emperor Alexander II was mortally wounded on the 1-st of March 1881. The expression “on the blood” indicates the blood of the killed ruler.
Itinerary
The cathedral contains 7500 square meters of mosaics. On the walls and ceilings there are detailed pannos depicting biblical scenes. Richly decorated with mosaics, marble, granite, gilded copper and bricks it became one of the brightest examples of Late Russian Style in architecture.
